Miami & D Wade: NBA Champs
In the end, the only real negative I saw to Miami winning the championship was that Gary “@!~$@$” Payton got a ring. Wade was awesome, the rightful Finals MVP. This is what we all thought he could be after that triple double versus Kentucky in the Elite 8 in 2003 (makes you wonder what happened at the Final Four that year…sheesh). So to tie this in with the Wisconsin Sports Rant: the city of Miami now has won 3 championships during my lifetime to my teams’ 1. Amazing, since one is also the number of professional sports teams Miami had up until 1988 Miami gets even more distance from our teams if you include major college sports as well. Figures. This is an interesting precursor to a future post, so keep an eye out for it!

The _only_ negative? How about the fact that this Finals will be known primarily for its crappy officiating? I love D-Wade, obviously, and have no love for Dallas, but it was absurd to see the refs take over games 3 and 5. I’m not even talking about a conspiracy (which is an absurd theory). I just hate that the NBA - more than any other professional sports league - lets its officials dictate the result of a championship.

I hear you on that. NBA officiating is terrible. Many of the refs think they are there to be seen. I worked directly with NBDL officials, many of whom are now in the NBA, and let me tell you…some of them are quite full of themselves. I think one of the biggest problems is that the game has gotten so fast that sometimes the calls are really “guesses”.

Payton getting a ring definitely makes me cringe. But what about that ‘jiggy’ Walker!? Now that is an injustice! Guys like Stockton, Miller, Chuck etc. miss out but that 3 point shooting hack gets a ring. URGH!
